Coaching

Professional athletes aren't the only ones who benefit from a coach to help them succeed. Business professionals also get the most from their talents and skills by using a coach to help them reach and maintain peak performance.

We offer coaching in two structures:

  • Individual coaching as part of our training and development programs

Training begins with individual awareness of the gaps between one's existing and desired skill levels, performance or behavior. Improvement begins in the training program, learning new tools and practicing them in a learning environment. Behavior modification occurs with knowledge transfer and integration of the new methods one has learned into his or her day-to-day work and personal interactions with others. Because all participants in a training program are individuals with their own strengths and challenges, we provide individual coaching to maximize the application of what each person has learned to their own, individual performance goals.

  • Personal and Executive coaching for individuals internal or external to our client organizations.

Why does someone hire a coach?

Individuals hire a coach because they want something to be better or different. They may have any number of reasons. Clients often express their motivation for hiring a coach in the following ways:

Setting, Clarifying and Achieving Goals:

I have a specific goal and I want assistance in developing and sustaining a plan to reach it.

I'm not happy with what I'm presently doing (or how I'm living my life), and I want it to be different but I'm not sure which way to go. I want help gaining clarity and deciding how to move forward.

Development and Feedback:

I've been promoted into a position of Leadership (or Manager, Supervisor) and I want to improve my people skills.

I'm not getting the results I believe are possible (for myself, with my team, with my department or company) and I'm looking for assistance in uncovering and moving the obstacles.

I'm getting feedback from my boss, (or board, coworkers, friends, family members) that I need to change the way I interact with them (or others). I'm not comfortable with this feedback, but I want to begin somewhere.

I've been promoted to a position of Manager or Supervisor and I've never done this before. I'm getting feedback that my communication skills could be better.

For years I've been successful in my career, and I've been told I'm the best at what I do. I recently experienced a change (reporting to a new boss, assigned to new responsibilities, working with a new coworker or employee, promoted to a position of managing others, merger or acquisition, etc.) and I'm feeling ineffective. I want assistance identifying the problem and formulating a plan to correct it.

How long does one work with a coach?
The length of a coaching engagement depends on individual goals and circumstances. You might have a short-term goal or project, where a 4 to 8 week coaching schedule will provide what you need. For longer-term goals and objectives, the coaching engagement can last from 6 months to 2 years, or even longer. Our goal is to assist you in reaching your goals in the time frame most effective for you, and as the coaching progresses, we encourage you to evaluate your need for continued coaching.
