California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS)
This 3 month research intervention for 131 people involved managers and staff within the Information Technology Services Division and members of the Change Management Team. Results showed anger, anxiety, burnout and physical symptoms of stress significantly decreased while peacefulness significantly increased. Happiness, social support, sadness, depression, productivity, job satisfaction and communication effectiveness all improved. A multiple regression analysis showed that the reductions in the physical symptoms of stress were significantly related to the use of IQM tools.


Among the group who reported feeling angry, annoyed, anxious, worried, depressed, and uneasy often or much of the time, the results were:
  • 50% drop in anger
  • 50% decrease in annoyance
  • 47% reduction in anxiety
  • 46% decline in worry
  • 47% decline in depression
  • 57% less uneasiness.

Among the group who reported feeling physical symptoms of stress like fatigue, sleeplessness, indigestion, body aches, and being tired often or much of the time, the results were:
  • 40% reduction in fatigue
  • 41% reduction in feeling tired
  • 39% reduction in sleeplessness
  • 47% reduction in indigestion
  • 41% reduction in body aches

In terms of overall wellness, there was a 50% drop in those who reported that they almost never feel well (from 6% to 3%), a 25% increase of those who report feeling well occasionally to often, and a 13% increase in those who say they feel good often or all of the time.
  • 40% decrease among those who strongly disagreed with "I am efficient at work"

  • 13% increase among those who somewhat to strongly agreed with "I am efficient at work"

  • 35% decrease among those who strongly disagreed with "We listen carefully to each other at work"

  • 24% increase among those who somewhat to strongly agreed with "We listen carefully to each
    other at work."

  • 22% decrease among those who strongly disagreed with "I feel appreciated"

  • 25% increase among those who somewhat to strongly agreed with "I feel appreciated"

  • 50% decrease among those who reported that they strongly disagreed to "I appreciate others."

  • 60% decrease among those who reported that they strongly disagreed to "I forgive others."

  • 24% decrease among those who reported that they somewhat to strongly agreed to "I feel like quitting my job."

  • 71% continue to use HeartMath techniques six to eight months after the training.

Miami-Dade County Health Department

Supervisors of WIC Department
Twenty-five employees in Supervisory positions completed the Inner Quality Management training in a multi-contact format. The program was designed with pre-training goal setting and consisted of 2 days of training followed by a half-day of training approx. 30 days later. A pre-training measurement was taken using the POQA instrument at 30 days prior to training and the post-training measurement was taken 6 weeks after the last training contact.

South Florida Water Management District
Two groups of 15 professionals, engineers, and directors completed the Inner Quality Management“ program. Pre and post data from the Personal and Organizational Quality Assessment survey used to measure results of the program showed statistically significant improvements in a number of factors that contribute to improved productivity, quality, communication, health and well-being.
